The Ultimate DIY Home Spa Day for Mum!

If you can't head to the spa this Mother's Day, or are looking for ways to treat Mum on a budget, we've written down our favourite DIY at home spa recipes for you! There’s no better way to show appreciation for your Mum than by treating her to a relaxing day full of quality time together. Whether it's for Mother’s Day, her birthday, or just because she deserves it, a DIY spa experience can be be easy to prep, and great fun to do together.

Setting the Scene for Relaxation

One of the great joys of a spa trip is entering a beautiful, relaxing enviroment and being able to leave your worries at the door. Recreate this feeling at home with a few simple tricks:

  • Soft Lighting: Use candles, fairy lights or dimmed lights to create that peaceful ambiance. If a bright day, be sure to draw the curtains.
  • Aromatherapy: Essential oils like lavender, chamomile, or eucalyptus can be diffused for a spa-like aroma. If you don't have a diffuser, a nice candle can work wonders - just remember to be careful of an open flame.
  • Relaxation Spot: Turn you room into a spa relaxation room by arrange a cosy spot with fluffy towels, a comfortable chair and some books or magazines. Fluffy bath robes a bonus!
  • Relaxing Music: Play gentle background music or nature sounds to help Mum unwind. We love TEMPLESPA's repose suite by Chris Eaton, avaliable on Spotify here.
  • Refreshments: Offer a soothing herbal tea or prep some fruit-infused water ahead of the spa day for sweet hydration. We love adding some slices of orange and a few basil leaves.

Relaxation Techniques

While homemade treatments can help you both feel pampered, adding some relaxation techniques can take your homemade spa experience to the next level. These simple yet effective methods will help you fully unwind, and release stress - just like at the spa!

  • Deep Breathing Exercises: While listening to the calming spa music you've put on, try inhaling deeply for four seconds, hold for four, and exhale for four to promote calmness.
  • Gentle Massage: Use a natural oil like almond or coconut to give yourselves or each other a soothing hand or foot massage. You could even take turns enjoying a massage while your honey and oat face mask is on.
  • Silk Eye Mask & Rest: Let her take a well-deserved break with a silk eye mask. No judgement if anyone enjoys a short nap!

The Perfect Finishing Touch

Finish off the spa day with a heartfelt gesture, like a handwritten note or a small gift of chocolates. The most important thing is that Mum feels loved, appreciated, and truly relaxed. With these DIY treatments, she’ll be glowing inside and out, but her favourite thing will the precious time you spend together.
