5 Minutes of Wellness
We know we talk about the concept of wellness a lot – but it’s for a good reason! The practice of wellness helps us take a little time for ourselves, physically, mentally, and emotionally, and helps to destress from the constant pressures of our daily lives.
Finding time for wellness can be tricky, so this month, we wanted to give light to some wellness practices that don’t require any more than 5 minutes of your time.
1. Breathe deeply
Simple breathing exercises or meditation can be surprisingly effective at supporting your body, and leaving you feeling calm and relaxed. You only need a few minutes to sit down, close your eyes, and focus on breathing in…. and out. In…. and out.
2. Stand and stretch
If you’ve been at a desk all day, try a simple stand and stretch. Just five minutes of stretching can have some incredible benefits on the body, and allows you a short work break. Try stretching upwards and to each side, then holding your feet, before twisting your torso left and right.
3. Say a mantra
A mantra is a word or sound that is believed to have a special spiritual power. In the wellness sense, it’s a positive phrase you tell yourself to motivate and inspire yourself to be your best self. You simply need a moment to pause, close your eyes, place your hand on your chest and remind yourself; “I am enough”; “I can and I will”; “I am here, I am present”; “I am worthy”.
4. Unplug from technology
Set your phone to silent, close the laptop or turn off the TV for 5. Walk around, stretch or use it as the time to say a mantra. Either way, a break from technology now and then is great for our brains and regulating our sleep.
5. Make a cup of tea
The ritual of pausing life for a few moments to make a cuppa is in-itself a wellness practice! Switching off the world for a moment to concreate on something calming and enjoyable is what wellness is all about. For added wellness benefits, try switching the builders tea for a herbal tea like peppermint.
