DIY Valentine's Spa Day at Home

If you can't make it to our spa this Valentine's Day, then why not treat yourself and a loved one to a delightful spa experience at home? In this blog we share our tips for bringing home that perfect cosy and intimate spa atmosphere, so you can indulge in DIY spa treatments that celebrate love and relaxation all from the comfort of your home. From crafting face masks, bath salts, and tips for setting the perfect spa-like ambience, we've got everything covered!

1. Creating a Relaxing Atmosphere

If you've been to our spa before, you'll know the first thing you notice is the relaxing spa ambience, beautiful spa smells and calming sounds. This is important as it sets the stage for a tranquil spa experience, and helps make your DIY treatments extra special!

  • Dim the Lights: Create the calming spa feel by dimming the lights or using soft, warm lighting. Consider using candles or fairy lights to add some extra magic.
  • Soothing Sounds: Play gentle and soothing music to enhance the relaxation experience. Nature sounds, instrumental music, or your favorite calming tunes work well. We love Repose Suite by Chris Eaton, made specially for Temple Spa!
  • Comfortable Seating: Arrange cozy seating with plush pillows and blankets. Create a space where you and your loved one can really unwind and comfortably enjoy your treatments.
  • Inviting Scents: Set the mood with delightful scents. Consider using scented candles or a diffuser with essential oils like lavender or chamomile for a fragrant and soothing atmosphere. Scents can significantly impact relaxation and create a memorable spa-like experience.

2. Tips for the Ultimate At-Home Spa Experience:

Whether you're pampering yourself or sharing the experience with a loved one, we have a feel more tips to enhance your DIY spa day:

  • Stay Hydrated: Keep a pitcher of infused water with slices of cucumber or citrus fruits to stay refreshed.
  • Warm Towels: Heat towels and place them in a basket for a spa-like touch. Use them to wipe away face masks or provide warmth after a relaxing bath.
  • Massage Techniques: Enhance the spa experience by learning simple massage techniques. Use a nourishing oil and take turns giving each other a soothing massage. Unsure how to massage? There are various tutorials on Youtube you can watch before or follow along with.
  • Mindful Breathing: Practice mindful breathing exercises to enhance relaxation. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and focus on deep, slow breaths.

3. Treatment 1 - DIY Face Masks

Our favourite spa treatment to recreate at home is a hydrating facial. While it may not be the same as a 60-minute facial at the spa, there is something relaxing about taking 15-20 minutes for yourself, no matter where you are!

Ingredients:
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 scoop of natural yogurt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Mash the avocado until smooth.
  2. Add honey and yogurt and mix well.
  3. Apply the mask to clean, dry skin and leave it on for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water for a hydrated and glowing complexion.
Soothing Yogurt and Oatmeal Mask:

Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon finely ground oatmeal

Instructions:

  1. Mix yogurt and oatmeal to form a paste.
  2. Apply the mask to your face and relax for 15 minutes.
  3. Gently massage in circular motions before rinsing off with water.
  4. Revel in the soothing and calming effects on your skin.

4. Treatment 2 - DIY Bath Salts:

Aromatherapy is one of our favourite ways of relaxing, and homemade bath salts are a great way of creating this at home.

Lavender and Eucalyptus Bath Salts:

- 1 cup Epsom salts
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- 5 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- Lavender buds (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine Epsom salts and coconut oil in a bowl.
  2. Add the essential oils and lavender buds (if using), then mix thoroughly.
  3. Store in an airtight container until ready to use.
  4. Add a generous scoop to your bath for a relaxing and aromatic soak.
